My weekend so far is flying by. Last night we went to an 80's themed birthday party. It was so much fun going shopping for our outfits. Chad and I decided to shop at some second hand stores, and pick the craziest clothes we could.
My outfit ended up consisting of - a crocheted hat, over sized boldly patterned jumper, cheetah print below knee skirt, spotted white stockings, mary jane shoes, wrist cuffs, bangles and chunky necklaces. Chads outfit was a badly printed long sleeved tee, high waisted tight stonewashed denim jeans rolled up at the bottom, sneakers, animal print hat and the essential suspenders. We looked hilarious, but it was so much fun. A few people at the party dressed up, but I must say we were the stars of the night... we were so 80's!
I was born in 1982 so I am a child of the 1980's but I must admit I don't remember much from that era. In my researching, here are a few more images that inspire me (or scare me!) -
Ahh the 80's. Almost as fashionably bad as the 90's. It's very interesting to see how much of the fashion from this era is becoming popular again. :)
Back to other things. On Thursday I participated in the second live artist session for V-Raw. This time it was held at Notre Dame University in Fremantle. I only had just over 2 hours to complete this piece. It didn't work out exactly how I had planned - but I guess when you are on a time limit you just create and see what happens.
Looking at it now, I just want to go back and rework it. This session frustrated me a little. I'm hoping to get the opportunity to do a few more sessions so I can put some new ideas into action. If anyone else gets the chance to do anything like this - take a plan, ready-made supplies and be prepared for it not to work out how you had thought. The nice thing was the university came up to us at the end asking if we were interested in creating some commissioned works to put up around the campus. I think that the query was related more to the graphic design girls who were participating with me - but I gave them my details anyway and we'll see what eventuates. Never deny an opportunity to get your work out there.
On Friday I spent the night finishing up a gallery work for the City of Vincent Art Awards. I'm really surprised by this piece and she totally inspires me with her haunting eyes.

Oh, and just before I go I wanted to share one last image with you. This is Rupiah, my cat. She was trying to help me dry my clothes.... yet she didn't understand she wasn't supposed to go into the dryer....
