Today the weather was wonderful and I headed out to browse around at the wonderful stores at the PICA Car Boot Sale. I know a lot of people that applied to be a part of this outdoor art & craft event, and didn't get in so I was very curious to see who did. There was a lot of people browsing, and it was a lovely mix of stallholders. In total there were about 25 people selling their goods, so far less then what I had thought. I finally got to meet Miss Minnie which was nice, and AbsolutFeli was there as well. Apparently I just missed Tea for Bini and LittleMissMeshell arrived after me so I didn't get to say hello to her either. It's always great to meet people from the mystical online world and know that they are real. Plus, it's inspiring to meet other creative minds and see what is being created. I usually am just in my own little world, so it's great to know there are other people out there who are doing similar things to me, and understand what I'm talking about some of the time. :)
I really wished that I had applied to sell at this event, my work would have fit in perfectly! Sadly, at the time of the application I was feeling a little overwhelmed with everything, so I didn't apply. It's good in a way because I get a bit of a break, and at least I know what it is like for next time. Currently I'm working on some new prints, cards, finalising some packaging details and my solo exhibition. I have a lot of plush creations in progress that I'm hoping will be finished up soon (I'm still working on prototypes), oh... and I've got my solo exhibition too! Plus a few other exhibitions before that, so I certainly can't say that it's quiet. :)
I took a little bit of money along to the car boot sale today, although I'm poor from spending money on so many supplies, so I had to be very careful about what I bought. Well, I'm overjoyed at my newest purchases!
First of all - a doll cushion. I spotted her and I just HAD to have her!
What I didn't understand about some of the people selling is they had no business cards or contact information. My doll was handed to me in a paper bag with a sticker on it... but no other information. Now I've left, I want more and she made matching t-shirts with these kinds of designs on it. I really, really, really want them. Yet.... no way of contacting her. I've been sneaky actually. I've contacted the organisers of the event who have forwarded me details of the person who created the items (well they think) so I'll contact her and see if it was her or not. :)
I also finally got my hands on Issue 3 of Kingbrown Magazine. It came packaged in a pretty paper brown bag with a mini poster, book and sticker along with the actual magazine. I've been desperate to get my hands on this for a while and it features plenty of interviews with contemporary artists and one of my inspirations - Amy Sol. I would love to be featured in this magazine - it rocks!
