next step - after putting various elements in the scene, I wanted to bring in some japanese symbolism.  I had ships, mt fuji..... next thing was going to be the rising sun.  The ships refer to travel/transport and freedom.  Mt Fuji for the natural element that dominates the skyline.  The sun as the marker of time.
