This is Piana. She's my new Blythe! I've been wanting one of these for years, but I've never been able to afford it - or have the chance to purchase one. I saw Piana through flickr and noticed she needed a good home. Thanks to MwinaMwina she was packaged up and posted very safely to my doorstep.
Piana has short brown hair. She is a prima dolly ginger blythe doll. Piana has had a few customizations from her previous owners. She has had her face sanded, hair cut short, eyelashes changed, eyechips changed, lips painted, pullring changed, scalp removed and reattached. I don't mind too much, she's in wonderful condition and it allows me to customize her further. When I have some spare time she's going to have a facelift with new clothes and some wonderful makeup. I can't wait.
Her she is sitting in a peg chair that my grandmother made me when I was a child. The chair even has crocheted cushions. I've kept all of my toys from growing up, so I was very pleased to find some items that allowed her to feel more at home.
She has four different eye colours - blue, plum, wine, and mismatched yellow and black. I'll have to fix the last set of eyes up at some stage, but I still love her.
At the moment she is sitting casually on my wooden desk. She has a little plastic butterfly in her hair from when I was a child and is wearing some vintage barbie clothes. I have some fabric set aside for some clothing, and I'm looking forward to creating some fashionable outfits for her.
Piana however hasn't quite decided where she fits into the family just yet. The dog is scared of her, the cat ignores her and the boyfriend doesn't understand why I like her. :)
I know she's a doll... but she's also a Blythe. I haven't yet figured out why I like her, but I've always enjoyed having dolls around, so she's just another addition to the collection.
She is very curious about my drawings though and enjoys watching what I create. It is great to have Piana around as her style is quite inspiring. I'm curious to see whether it will start reflecting in my work.
I've had a wonderful couple of days with mail. I've been receiving so much postcards, penpal mail, purchases and invitations the postman must think I'm very popular! Two of my invites were for Art Exhibition Openings in the coming week. One of them is very esteemed in Perth and it is formal so Chad will need to wear a suit and tie. I'm going shopping on Monday to find a gorgeous dress to wear. We'll take a camera to get some happy snaps of the night. I've never been to an Art Exhibition Opening before, so I'm quite excited about it all.
I also received my swap item from a swap on Craftster. The theme of the swap was "Who Wants to Be A Superhero" based on a television show on the SciFi Channel.
From Wikipedia -
Who Wants to Be a Superhero? is a reality show hosted by Stan Lee. Contestants dress up as comic book superheroes
of their own invention. Each week, Lee challenges the contestants to
represent what "superheroes are all about." One or more of the
superheroes deemed the least deserving is eliminated per episode. The
grand prize for the winning superhero is to have his or her character
star in a Dark Horse Comics comic book written by Lee and an original movie to be aired on Sci Fi Channel. The winner also receives a trip for two to Universal Studios Florida to participate in the park's Parade of Superheroes.
You can find out about more about Season 2 of the series at the website. I have not seen a show this good for a very long time. Yes, I am a little bit of a geek, but you just HAVE to watch the show. The boyfriend didn't think it would be very fun at all, but 5 minutes in he was hooked. The entire time of the show the contestents must remain as their superhero personas, and it's fabulous to see what they do, what they wear and how they interact with another. Oh - and great news is that there is a seller from Etsy who is one of the main superheros during season 2. Her name is Hygena and her Etsy store is MelodyMuse. Go and visit her, she's famous. xox
Anyway, back on track. As part of the swap we had to design costumes or accessories for eachothers characters. My character is "Illustratore". I can just image being introduced, "Here she is, the Ill-ustra-TORE". I know it wasn't a very well thought out name and was very obvious. My superhero powers would be being able to draw objects that come to life and use my paintbrush to make things disappear. I had a whole character plan written up - but silly me forgot to save it before I sent it off. Grrr.
This is what cold.dinner created for me. She has an Etsy shop here.
The wonderful thing about the items is that they are crocheted, and very pretty. I can't crochet or knit, so I like objects that have been. I have been made -
- Purple glitter headband
- The all essential superhero toolbelt
- Crocheted badges. One has a face, the other an I (for my superhero name)
- A crocheted bracelet.
Maybe one day you can see me dressed up with it all... :) I'm also going to make an apron to match it all covered in essential pockets to stash away my tools of paintbrushes, pens and pencils.
For now however I'm going to have to continue working on my list. I haven't told you about my list yet which currently stands at 47 items that I need to complete by the end of the weekend. I'm finding that I'm so busy and stressed at the moment it is largely due to the fact that I have so many ongoing projects. So this weekend I'm going nowhere, I've got my music on and I am working non stop. I came to the realisation that I had to finish what I have going on before I can progress any further. Plus I've got college starting in a week as well as my art exhibitions, opening nights and a few other events on I'll be attending so I won't have as much time to devote to my usual creating. For now I've got paintings to finish, magazine illustrations to submit, items to list on ebay as well as etsy, plus sewing projects to complete. In the time it's taken me to write this post I've already finished 5 items. Sadly, they were my quick projects and I've still got 42 projects to go.... xox
